Israel’s Postmodern Condition

Abstract

Israeli society is mired in a postmodern condition: Most Israelis have lost faith in an overarching world view and lost contact with a metanarrative; the average Israeli no longer has a cognitive map with which to discern good from evil, to perceive cause and effect, and to decide what is morally either correct or reprehensible; the rational infrastructure of our lives has crumbled and begun to vanish; the connection has blurred between effective means and the desired ends they were meant to achieve; beginning and end have lost their meaning, leaving a void without limits or boundaries to territory, time and the definition of our collective identity. It is difficult to conceive of a way out of this condition.
